Description  more details

This is a vintage 1968 or 1969 Arctic Cat, adult size 6 one-piece coverall snowmobile suit in good condition. These suits were made of a tight weave nylon shell that was very durable and that breathed to help wick away moisture. They had a nylon interlining and an 8-oz allergy free polyester insulation. All seams were taped and double stitched and they kept the insulation in place even when the stitching for the quilted liner failed, which happened quite often. This suit has a few loose quilting threads but not too bad and it does not create a problem.

This suit has the faux fur lined collar and these suits had the faux fur lined chin strap that snapped on either side of the collar; It is not with this suit. This suit includes the center zippered leopard print hood that lays flat across the back when unzipped. The ladies suits had the leopard print hood and the men's and children's suits had the red lined hood. The leopard print hoods were also available separately so many of the men's suit I have seen had the leopard print hood. The knit wrist cuffs are in good condition.
It has the 2 inch nylon web adjustable strap belt with the T-clasp buckle. These suits have two large double stitched front leg pockets with snap closures. This suit has the ARCTIC CaT SNOWMOBILE "swoosh" patch on the left chest also with the famous 'Cat Head' insignia. The label inside has the Arctic Cat "swoosh" design with ARCTIC SNOW-SUIT lettering, the size '6' and the famous Arctic Cat 'Cat Head'.

This suit has the full neck to fly zipper and a snapped wind flap that covers it to keep the wind and cold out. The 1968 and 1969 sales brochures stated that the front zippers were two-way, but it is a one-way. All snaps work well as do all zippers. The legs have the one-way side zipper that zips from the bottom to just above the knee. You can take the suit off without removing your boots. The zippers are all the heavy duty metal zippers. The right leg zipper has one tooth missing but the zipper works just fine without it. All of the snap covers have some degree of scratches. The leg zippers on the ladies suit extended from the knee to the leg bottom and on the men's suits from the hip to the leg bottom. Structurally, that was the main difference. The sizing and structure was the same otherwise and as far as wearing them they can be unisex. You can find sizing information by going to the Sizing Chart link at the bottom of the page. The men's suits were supposed to have a third patch pocket on the chest where the swoosh patch is, and the patch was supposed to be on the left arm. There was also supposed to be a name tag and I have yet to see one.

This suit has been worn but it is not worn out. There are no holes or open seams. There are two small wear spots inside both legs at the very bottom at the seam where the legs would rub together when walking. It is ready to wear as it is. There is a little bit of fuzz and fading at the seat and knees but it is not bad. There is some very light soiling that may come off simply by wiping it with a damp rag.

This suit would be great to wear at the vintage snowmobiling events and meets for the smaller guy or gal, or just for display. It would also be a great way for the younger person to take part in the vintage snowmobile craze.

The sizing in 1968, 1969, and 1970 was the same for the adult men's and women's snowmobile suits; by weight. They both had the same size numbering. The size 6 was for an adult weighing between 80 to 100 lbs. It would be the equivalent to a men's size XXS. The men's and women's suits do have slight differences but could be unisex and also great for the youth fitting the measurements. The male model in the 1970 Arctic Cat Accessories brochure was wearing the ladies version of the suit, with the leg zipper that went from the knee to the bottom of the legs.
Please use the measurements in More Details and compare to something similar you know fits well for a proper fit.
